California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
Environmental Review

CEQA is the State of California's governing environmental law. It requires public agencies, including the County to evaluate and disclose to the public and other agencies the potential environmental implications of the proposed development projects, before they are actually approved for development. In addition, CEQA law requires agencies to avoid or reduce, when feasible, the significant environmental impacts of the project.
