Stanislaus County offers many safety training courses online and in person.   One of our online platforms is Target Solutions which offers a long list of safety courses including several courses created specifically for County employees.  A second online source for safety training is through EIA TV.  We also offer traditional classroom training periodically throughout the year.  Employees may self-register for classroom training in PeopleSoft self-service.  Instructions are available on the PeopleSoft landing page.

Course Names & Descriptions:

Back Safety-Ergonomics

Proper lifting techniques, stretching and strengthening exercises with the goal of reducing the potential of injuries resulting from a deconditioned spinal column and musculature system. You will learn some basics of lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying and reaching techniques for both on or off the job exposure.

Bloodborne Pathogens

Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. We will review employer responsibilities pertaining to bloodborne pathogens and provide guidance in procedure development necessary to reduce employee risk. The learning objectives include:

  • Exposure routes for bloodborne pathogens
  • Signs indicative of potential hazards
  • What to do if there is an exposure incident
  • Universal Precautions
  • Employer responsibilities in the event of employee exposure

CPR/First Aid/AED

The life you save may be that of a loved one.  Adult, Infant, and Child Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automatic External Defibrillator training.  Eighty percent of First Aid/CPR use occurs in the home, not on the job. Be prepared to save a life at home or work.

CPR certification is valid for a 2-year period.

Training is available on line through Target Solutions (First Aid only) and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SCPRFA (4 hour).


Defensive Driving Class

Motor Vehicle collisions are one of the leading causes of death and serious injury to employees who drive as part of their work responsibilities. The national cost of motor vehicle collisions is in excess of $230 billion annually. The cost of implementing a safe driving program is often far less than the average “backing crash”. Want to learn to drive safer? Then come to this class!

Training is available on line through Target Solutions (2 hour) and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SDIP (4 hour).


Department of Transportation (DOT) Training for Supervisors

Both State & Federal Law mandate training for all supervisors or persons who oversee a DOT driver. To comply with these mandates, the CEO-Risk Management Division will conduct a DOT training class for all DOT Representatives, Supervisors and other persons overseeing DOT drivers. Please check within your department/division to determine who must attend.  Remember only trained individuals may supervise and or oversee DOT drivers.

Ergonomics

County employees who spend two or more hours on or off the job doing repetitive task is a candidate for an Ergonomics class.  Listening to your body is essential to the quality of life. Learn how ergonomics can save you from pain, suffering, and loss of income and disruption of your lifestyle due to injury. 

Training is available on line through Target Solutions (various classes available ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours) and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SOE (2 hours).


Fire Extinguisher Training

Your kitchen stove is on fire… A small fire breaks out in your office… In either of these situations, would you know how to respond?  Learn the basics of fire prevention and home safety/evacuation plan and then receive hands on practice actually putting out a fire using a fire extinguisher.

Training is available on line through Target Solutions and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SFIRE ( 1 ½ hour).


Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

"Injury and Illness Prevention Program" (IIPP) is a State mandated safety program to prevent injury and illness through risk assessment, communication, training and assigned responsibilities. Every Stanislaus County employee is required to have annual IIPP training.

Training is available on line through Target Solutions (30 minutes) and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SIIPP (1 hour).


Mail Handling Safety

Does your job include opening mail or packages?  Curious as to how mailrooms and offices should handle mail that may contain a bomb, written threats, chemical, biological material inside, or mail that may contain some form of powder?  If you have answered yes to either question above the Mail Handling Safety class is for you.

Slip/Trip/Fall

Slips, trips and falls are a leading cause of injury and death, on or off the job. Managers/Supervisors will learn how these events occur, and the warning signs of a problem area. By being a better observer, we will be able to avoid dangers that we may have overlooked previously.

Training is available on line through Target Solutions and is offered in a classroom environment through Risk Management.  PeopleSoft Course ID SSTF (2 hours).


Water Safety Training

Employee, who is engaged in work activities near (10 feet) deep, swift, or rapidly rising water are required to have water safety training.  All attendees will get wet.  Clothing that is similar to regular work attire, that can get wet, is required.  It is requested you bring a towel and change of clothing.  You must be pre-registered.  Required Equipment:

  • One Class III, IV or V Personal Flotation Device (PFD) equipped with a whistle for every registered employee.
  • One 70-foot 3/8 Poly-rope bag for every two employees.
  • One waterproof flashlight for every employee (to be attached to the PFD).
  • One radio, cellular phone or some other forms of communication, which allow employees to contact assistance (for every two employees).

Employees may share equipment during the class.  A limited supply of equipment will be available at the pool and must be reserved during the registration process.  Departments may contact the CEO-Risk Management Division for assistance in the type of equipment that may need to be purchased.

County specific Target Solutions training courses are self-assignable through Target Solutions.  If you already have a username and password you may log in at Target Solutions and assign any of the SC courses to yourself:

  • SC Defensive Driving 2017 (1 ½ - 2 hour course)
  • SC Ergonomics 2017 (included in SC New Employee Orientation - approximately 30 minutes)
  • SC Hazard Communications 2017 (included in SC New Employee Orientation – approximately 15 minutes)
  • SC IIPP 2017 (Included in SC New Employee Orientation - approximately 20 minutes)
  • SC Heat Injury Illness 2017 (approximately 30 minutes)
  • SC New Employee Orientation 2017 (1 ½ - 2 hour course)
  • SC Disaster Service Workers
