Residential Crisis Services
Depending on the individual’s clinical needs and safety concerns, crisis services may include referral or placement into higher levels of psychiatric stabilization and inpatient treatment services. Stanislaus County’s crisis continuum includes contracted and county-operated inpatient psychiatric facilities that provide intensive stabilization and treatment for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric emergencies. Local inpatient psychiatric facilities utilized by BHRS include the Telecare Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) and Doctors Behavioral Health Center.
At times, due to limited local psychiatric inpatient bed availability, individuals may require placement in out-of-county psychiatric hospitals to ensure timely access to medically necessary inpatient psychiatric care and stabilization services. These services are intended to provide short-term psychiatric stabilization, clinical assessment, medication support, and treatment interventions necessary to reduce immediate risk and support transition to ongoing behavioral health care and community-based services.
Telecare Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF)
The Stanislaus County Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), operated by Telecare at the County’s Stanislaus Recovery Center site, provides intensive psychiatric and mental health treatment services for adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis in a safe, secure, and supportive environment. The program is designed to stabilize acute symptoms, support recovery, and help individuals transition to appropriate ongoing care and community-based services. The secure 16-bed facility is staffed by a multidisciplinary treatment team that includes psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, recovery specialists, peer recovery coaches, and other behavioral health professionals. Services are individualized and focused on stabilization, treatment engagement, recovery support, and discharge planning. The PHF emphasizes person-centered care, recovery-oriented practices, harm reduction strategies, and development of independent coping and decision-making skills. The program provides a respectful and structured therapeutic environment where individuals can receive immediate psychiatric support, crisis stabilization, medication services, rehabilitation activities, and linkage to ongoing behavioral health and community resources to reduce the need for higher levels of care.

Doctors Behavioral Health Center is a 67-bed adult inpatient psychiatric treatment facility affiliated with Doctors Medical Center and part of Tenet Healthcare. The facility provides structured inpatient psychiatric treatment, close clinical observation, and stabilization services for adults experiencing acute psychiatric impairment. The program is designed to support stabilization while promoting recovery and increased independence within a therapeutic treatment environment.
