CARE Act
The CARE Act, which stands for Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment Act is a civil court program in California designed to help adults with severe, untreated mental illnesses particularly schizophrenia spectrum, Bi-Polar I with Psychotic Features and other psychotic disorders who are at risk of homelessness, incarceration, or repeated hospitalization. The program allows eligible individuals to receive a court-ordered, personalized treatment plan that may include mental health care, medication, substance use treatment, housing support, and social services, while remaining non-criminal in nature, with the goal of stabilizing individuals, promoting recovery, and reducing homelessness and involvement with the justice system.
