Excess Proceeds
Excess proceeds exist when the price paid at sale exceeds the taxes, fees, and interest owed to the County and taxing agencies. Excess proceeds are held by the County for a period of one year, to allow for notification of, and application for excess proceeds by, lienholders, creditors, and other persons of interest. Distribution of excess proceeds is made in accordance with Part 8, Chapter 1.3 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code, which outlines the process and requirements regarding the distribution of proceeds from the sale of tax-deeded property.
