Site Location & Transportation

Strategic Location & Connectivity

The Crows Landing Industrial Business Park and Airfield, or The Landing, is a 1,528-acre reuse project on the former Crows Landing Air Facility in western Stanislaus County, CA, just 1 mile from Interstate 5. This prime location provides easy access to road, rail, air, and maritime transportation networks, making it ideal for logistics, distribution, and industrial development.

Transportation & Intermodal Access

  • Interstate 5 & I-580: Direct routes to the San Francisco Bay Area and ports of Oakland, San Francisco, and West Sacramento within one hour.
  • CA Highway 33: Access to the City and Port of Stockton.
  • CA Highway 99: A major north-south corridor through California.
  • On-site Airport: A planned 5,400-foot runway will support aviation-related businesses and provide 15-minute air access to Silicon Valley.

Regional Economy & Business Opportunities

Stanislaus County is a key hub for agriculture, manufacturing, and distribution, home to E&J Gallo Winery, Foster Farms, and major food processing enterprises. The Landing’s proximity to Silicon Valley and the Bay Area creates opportunities for logistics, R&D, and partnerships with leading companies.

A Workforce Ready for Opportunity

With one of California’s highest unemployment rates, Stanislaus County aims to create jobs where people live, reducing long commutes to the Bay Area and improving quality of life. A growing population and affordable housing make the region an attractive location for businesses seeking a local, skilled workforce.

A Sustainable Development Choice

The Landing reuses existing infrastructure while preserving agricultural land. By creating a regional employment center, The Landing reduces commuter congestion, improves air quality, and provides long-term economic benefits for the County and its residents.

Ready for Business

Stanislaus County is actively investing in infrastructure and partnerships to support business growth. With large development-ready sites, an entitled, County-owned property, and a strategic location, The Landing is the ideal place for businesses looking to expand.

A New Airport for Stanislaus County

The Crows Landing Airport will be a public-use facility designed to support regional businesses, aviation operations, and The Landing’s tenants. With a 5,175-foot runway, aviators will reach the San Francisco Bay Area in under 15 minutes.

Planned Facilities

The 370-acre airport, approved in 2018, will feature:

  • ✓ Reuse of Runway 12-30
  • ✓ Full-length taxiway
  • Hangars, tie-down areas, and terminal building
  • Fuel facilities, aircraft wash rack, and parking
  • Helicopter takeoff/landing area
  • Security fencing and internal roads

Sized for small- to medium-sized air cargo and feeder aircraft, the airport will not accommodate large cargo planes.

Optimizing Site Use

The Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan (ALUCP) ensures safe operations, noise reduction, and responsible development, aligning with the Crows Landing Specific Plan to streamline permitting and approvals.

Ready for Takeoff!

The Crows Landing Airport is set to open in Phase 1B, with phased improvements over the next 20 years—or sooner based on demand.

History

Crows Landing: A Legacy of Service & New Opportunity

Military History (1942-1997)

The Crows Landing Air Facility served the nation for over 50 years, supporting the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and NASA. Commissioned in 1942 as an auxiliary airfield to NAAS Alameda, it expanded during World War II to train military pilots and later became an Outlying Landing Field (OLF) for NAS Alameda and Moffett Field. The facility played a key role in military training and aerospace research until its closure in 1997.

Transition & County Acquisition

As part of the 1991 Base Closure and Realignment Commission, NASA assumed control of Crows Landing in 1994 and later proposed its divestment. In 1999, Congress authorized the transfer of the 1,528-acre site to Stanislaus County, with 1,352 acres conveyed in 2004 following environmental cleanup. The remaining land is undergoing final remediation, with full transfer expected by 2025.

A Future Built on History

With existing infrastructure and a preserved runway, Crows Landing is poised for transformation. The County plans to develop a general aviation airport and industrial business park, creating jobs and economic growth while honoring the site’s rich history.
