Introduction

In recent years, California voters and the state legislature created a legal framework to regulate the cannabis industry. In response to these changes, the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors developed a conservative allowance strategy of 61 total Commercial Cannabis Business Licenses, with a cap of 7 total retail businesses. The intent of the Board approved conservative allowance is to provide a revenue source to fund the County’s enforcement strategy to remove the numerous illegal cannabis activities in our community. Revenue collected from the legal, permitted cannabis business activities will support this enforcement strategy.

The adopted ordinances established a comprehensive program to permit and regulate cannabis cultivation, distribution, manufacturing, retail and testing activities in the unincorporated areas of Stanislaus County. The ordinance tightly regulates the cannabis industry while preserving our environmental resources, protecting the health and safety of our community, and prioritizing fiscal responsibility for tax payers.
