Advanced Planning - SMARA

Special Project (Major Projects)

This section of the Planning Department was created to devote whatever amount of time and effort is necessary to work with projects which have needs beyond that of the norm. This can include a wide range of projects from general and community plan amendments, specific plans, mining permits, including Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) enforcement, and complex planned developments and building projects which the County itself intends to implement. It is the philosophy of the Planning Department that the extra effort spent during the early stages of special projects benefits the applicant, the department and the county as a whole. By working closely with a project proponent or a team, potential pitfalls can be identified and satisfactorily addressed. The end result is not only a project which can be presented to decision makers with an absolute minimum of unanswered questions, but also helps to build ties with the participants based on trust established during the process.
