General Plan

  • The General Plan is a comprehensive, long-term plan for the physical development of the county, and of any land outside its boundaries which in the planning agency's judgment bears relation to its planning

  • The General Plan, its elements and parts comprise an integrated, internally consistent and compatible statement of policies for the agency

  • The General plan consists of a statement of development policies and includes a diagram or diagrams and text setting forth objectives, principles, standards, and plan proposals

  • The General Plan consists of seven mandatory elements and as many optional elements as the jurisdiction deems desirable. The mandatory elements include Land Use, Circulation, Housing, Open Space, Conservation, Safety and Noise

  • In Stanislaus County since the Open Space and Conservation Elements have overlapping requirements, they have been combined in the Stanislaus County General Plan

  • The County also adopted an optional element, the Agricultural Element

  • General Plan Amendments can occur four times a year. According to Board of Supervisor policy they can occur in April, August, December and a fourth time is held in reserve to be used at the Board's discretion.
