Everyone can do something! Individuals, groups, families, and co-workers; the young and not so young, people with experience and skills, and people just starting out… There's an on-going or a one-time-only opportunity for everyone!

If you can find the time, we can find the need.

Modesto Police Department

Provides safety services to the community with the Modesto Police Department - Volunteers In Police Service, or VIPS. Volunteers are needed to patrol neighborhoods and schools, identify and report traffic hazard areas, contact burglary victims by phone, participate in Neighborhood Watch meetings, enforce parking at schools and businesses, staff safety fairs/community meetings, assist with office/clerical tasks, and more. Scheduling is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Volunteers are also needed in the VIPS Helping Adults with Kindness program (HAWK), to provide reassurance and support to seniors in their homes; VIPS Bike Patrol, to patrol shopping center parking lots and bike trails to provide the "eyes and ears" for the Police Department and provide a visual presence in the community; and the VIPS Truancy Intervention program (TIPS), to provide home visits to students who are habitually truant or do not attend school. Training and supplies are provided for all programs and flexible scheduling is available. All volunteers must be 18 years or older and pass a detailed background investigation. The VIPS mission is to promote community participation by giving opportunities to people to use their experience and talents to assist the Police Department.
