Modesto Gospel Mission

Provide hope to the homeless through a variety of programs at the Modesto Gospel Mission.

The Modesto Gospel Mission needs towels for men, women and children who shower at the shelter. New or used towels can be dropped off at the Gospel Mission, 1400 Yosemite Blvd., Modesto. For more information, please call Barbara Deatherage at 529-8259.

Volunteers are needed to assist children, ages 3 to 12, with arts and crafts in the Children’s Center, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; help prepare and serve meals to homeless men, women, and children in the dining hall during the evenings; and provide outside security surveillance support.

Volunteers are also needed to interact with at-risk youth at the GATE (God Anointed Teen Encounter) on Fridays from 8:30 to 11 p.m. GATE provides a safe place for teens, ages 13 to 17, to hang out, talk, play video games, ping pong, basketball, have refreshments and learn about the ministry through music, drama, readings, etc. Volunteers welcome teens and monitor the evening activities.

Prior to assignment, all volunteers must attend an orientation/tour held monthly on the second Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In addition, physicians and medical providers are needed to volunteer one day a month treating needy individuals at the evening medical clinic; volunteer medical clerks will welcome patients into the clinic and assist medical personnel as needed. The evening medical clinic is open from 6 to 9 Tuesdays and Thursdays, but hours can be arranged to fit the doctor’s schedules.
