Everyone can do something! Individuals, groups, families, and co-workers; the young and not so young, people with experience and skills, and people just starting out… There's an on-going or a one-time-only opportunity for everyone!

If you can find the time, we can find the need.

Community Hospice

Volunteers are needed to provide support to individuals facing life-threatening illnesses, their families & friends, and to those grieving the loss of a loved one.

Volunteers will learn the philosophy and concepts of hospice care, and the impact of terminal illness on both the patient and the family. They’ll gain an understanding of grief and loss and train to become family visitors.

Volunteers may choose from various positions throughout Community Hospice, including: bereavement volunteers who follow up with bereaved families thru mailings or by phone; family visitors to provide support, relief, & companionship to patients and caregivers; support-group facilitators; massage therapists; music therapy; and staffers at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House, a 16-patient homelike environment for patients needing a higher level of care in Hughson.

After an additional 2 1/2 hr. training, Hospice House volunteers work directly with patients and families: family visitors/bereavement volunteers, support group facilitators, & ambulation assistants; or, provide support services: greeter, clerical/phone assistant, special projects, activities, housekeeping, food services/kitchen, etc.
